Lessons learnt in home designing!

I learned a lot in home designing when we recently bought our first house.

Lessons learned -
  1. The colors in your house decide how the environment would be. Lighter colors tend to excite/energize people and soothes their eyes. Darker colors tend to create a cozy environment. This is true for furniture, flooring, colors of plants in landscape and so on.
  2. Vertical grains on the floor make the room appear longer while horizontal grains make it wider.
  3. You can be all creative about how you select colors on flooring and furniture, while only few combinations go together. To make your choices easier, always select floor color first and then everything else falls in place. Builders tell you to do other way round for their own convenience. They do it because woodwork is done on house before flooring.
  4. Even if you do mistakes while picking colors, it's not all lost. You can always change the look and feel by just adding a carpet/rug.
  5. Easy to clean, not-too-cold to walk on in winter should be primary considerations when selecting flooring.
  6. Above all, dont spend too much money on improvements! They are hard to sell. Buyers always compare prices of houses in the neighborhood and most of them dont care too much about improvements!

Leadership and being Opinionated

In many corporations, people who claim to have leadership qualities tend to be less opinionated. Given any topic (or) any issue, they are either neutral (or) have no opinion. May be it's one of the things taught in management training sessions.

Any person who has good knowledge (or) background about an issue tends to have some sort of opinion on how the issue needs to be tackled. What good is having knowledge otherwise? On the other hand, if I have no idea about an issue, I tend to be neutral and non-opinionated.

So, does this mean I got to be dumb to go up the corporate ladders? May be not. In my career i have seen poeple with good leadship skills and bad leadership skills. I beleive people with good knowledge about what they work on and who can empower other people to learn and acheive their goals are true leaders.

My take on life

I will use this blog to record my experiences in life and express my opinions on various issues/phenomenon/beleifs/attitudes/policies and so on. It's just about every opinion i have anything that can be seen, tocuhed (or) felt.

I beleive everyone goes through certain transformations in life and their definition of what's right and what's wrong keeps changing. I want to track how my opinion is changing. I'll let others disagree or argue on the topics right in this blog.

About myself- as of now i am nobody who is living in sunnyvale, CA.
